24,000 felons will receive ballots for November election
Posted by Jonathan Bechtle - October 15, 2008The Washington Secretary of State’s Office has been touting its new elections super-computer, which was set up in 2006 to purge illegal voters off the rolls.
KIRO-TV’s Investigative Reporter, Chris Halsne conducted an independent computer analysis to double-check the accuracy of the system.
Our research uncovered a significant flaw in the way the Secretary of State’s Office decided to handle felon voters.
Approximately 24,000 convicted felons will get ballots in the mail, despite a probability these criminals are ineligible to vote.
This is no mistake or oversight. Halsne discovered the new elections computer system was intentionally programmed to preclude a vast number of felons.
The plan was suppose to forever remain under wraps, but instead the public will hear about it during an exclusive KIRO Team 7 Investigation, scheduled to air tonight, Wednesday, October 15th at 11 pm on Channel 7 (CBS).

Cheating the government on something as important as voting makes other things much easier to cheat on. How lenient would this official be if these 16- and 17-year-olds were cheating on paying taxes, registering vehicles, or other things that governments are in charge of?

My life just got easier. If it is too hard to follow a law, then don't bother.
Man, because of how hard it is to do 35 on a five lane road, I can get to my destination quicker by ignoring that bothersome law.
Go to court to pay a fine? Too much trouble. Maybe I'll skip it.
Don't talk on a cell phone while driving? Gosh, I need to be connected. That law is toast too.
Sam, follow the law. Isn't that your sworn duty as SoS? The Democrats will oblige you this year and change the Constitution to remove this burden, but until then, it is the law.
Politicians, can't live with them, would prefer to live withhout them.

You don't have to be math wiz to figure out that this means that Gregoire was wrongly elected governor.

Jonathan: You make this sound like its something new to you. But you've talked at length with the SoS staff about this over two legislative sessions. Any reason why, when asked by a staffer what you thought they should do, that you remained silent?
Readers should look at the reply from SoS staff on a later blog.
