Nixon says no - won't be the one for new King County post

In an exclusive interview Sunday evening, former State Representative Toby Nixon, R-45th District, confided to me that he will not seek the newly created nonpartisan position of elected Director of Elections for King County.
Coming off a defeat in his run to retake his old seat in the Washington Legislature, Nixon, who is largely responsible for the success of 2007's county-wide Initiative 25, which became King County Charter Amendment 1on this November's ballot, decided against seeking the post.
Calling himself a policy person, not a big organization manager, Nixon said the new position wouldn't be a good fit for him. In addition, he wants to focus more on his family and be able to retain his current job with Microsoft, something the full-time Director of Elections job wouldn't allow.
More details on Nixon's decision and the importance of the job itself can be found starting tomorrow in my bi-weekly column, The Piper's Perspective, at
http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/east_king/kir, the Web site of the Kirkland Reporter. Print editions of the paper were delivered today, but the on-line version won't be available until Wednesday.
