Illegal immigrants may be eligible for paid family leave

About 14 minutes into yesterday's Senate Labor, Commerce, Research & Development Committee meeting, an official from the state's Employment Security Department admitted that a bill, as currently written, would allow undocumented workers to receive paid family leave benefits slated to begin in October 2009.

There is no word yet if legislative leaders will attempt to fix the bill or let the current language stand.

EFF voiced our concerns that all aspects of any new program—including long-term funding—should be thoroughly planned before any promises are made or expected, a point reinforced here by Sen. Janea Holmquist, ranking minority member on the committee.

WHY WOULD OUR TAX DOLLARS BE GIVEN TO ILLEGAL ALIENS WHO ARE CRIMINALS BY BEING IN OUR COUNTRY? ARE THE INMATES RUNNING THE ASYLUM IN WASH STATE? CRIMINALS SHOULD BE PUNISHED, NOT REWARDED....WHEN DO AMERICAN CITIZENS GET TO PICK AND CHOSE WHICH LAWS WE WANT TO OBEY OR DISOBEY? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

I agree with kit. We each need to choose the law that we will ignore with impunity. We'll get a little card that details which immunity we are entitled to, and when contacted by the police, we'll just flash our card, and be on our way. I am trying to decide if I want to be immune from fishing and hunting regs, like our native neighbors, or maybe speeding laws, most likely it will be not having to pay taxes.

This seems like a viable solution that Oklahoma just passed:

The law, billed by its backers as the nation's toughest legislation against illegal immigration, took effect Nov. 1. It bars illegal immigrants from obtaining jobs or state assistance and makes it a felony to harbor or transport illegal immigrants.

Bob, Washington won't go where Oklahoma did. Washington still gives illegals drivers licenses which is why the citizens, both legal and illegal, will now have to jump through hoops to get an ID that will get them on an airplane.
For proof of identity the DMV uses Guatemalan Consulate Cards, Matricular Consular cards from the Mexican Consulate, or Mexican school records with photo and raised seal as alternate documates. Those will get you a Washington Drivers license AND a voters registration card under the Motor Voter Act. What's one more law when you've broken others?
