Introducing the iLearn Project!
Posted by Diana Cieslak - July 08, 2010
Have you ever met a student who just couldn't succeed in school? Maybe it's because of their home life, a learning disability, poor teaching, or something else.
Our current education system runs on a
factory model. Students go in as raw material and are supposed to come off the conveyor belt as uniformly intelligent young adults, prepared for citizenship, the workforce, or academia. For some students, this works just fine. But for many, it doesn't.
That's where the iLearn Project comes in. iLearn is the Freedom Foundation's campaign to identify, protect, and expand Washington's public
online learning options. We've talked to families around the state who use these programs for every variety of reason: health issues, gifted learners, learning disabilities, autism, etc. And the results are astounding.

Visit our new website,
www.iLearnProject.com, to learn more and read the
stories of Washington's online families. They're the pioneers who will revolutionize education not only for our state but for generations of Washingtonians.
The Freedom Foundation had been researching online learning when last February the House of Representatives proposed cutting all K-6
Alternative Learning Experience programs, including online
learning--supposedly to save the state money. I wrote about that dispute
here.
