A citizen's view on the income tax proposal

Posted by Jonathan Bechtle - March 05, 2010

I didn't get a chance to catch the entire sham hearing last night on SB 6250, the bill to create an income tax, but I catch a few of the testimonies that I think are worth re-watching.

Here's one from Jennifer Sargent. She heard about the hearing as she was driving home from work, but decided to come by and talk about why she, as a regular citizen, was opposed to the bill. It's well worth watching.

Here's another from Shadrach White, an Olympia business executive. Watch to the end, when a scattering of applause for his statement is gaveled down by Senator Prentice.

And here's EFF's Amber Gunn, decrying the complete lack of transparency in the hearing...like not providing the text of the amendment to citizens before the hearing started.

Four seconds of applause, and the Senator thinks they should clear the room over that?

They won't provide the bill before the hearing, and try to kick people out for four seconds of applause.

Do these tyrants realize how big a hole they are digging themselves?

Dictatorship of the proletariat is no longer a curious historical concept from foreign lands.

These speakers did an excellent job on short notice! Two thumbs way up.

I always thought Ayn Rand was a little over the top in her colorful descriptions of "the looters" and "thieves" in government.

Now I see them in action, I can understand how pissed some people were under the Roosevelt administration. I will be God damned if I let these thieves reach into my pocket. I read somewhere once that "excessive taxation always leads to Fraud, Flight, or Fight". So, when does "fraud" become "consciencious objection"...a concept I seem to recall these left wing America-haters pioneered?

I can't thank y'all enough for hustling down there from wherever you were! Those of us who live too far away for stealth hearings are VERY grateful! That was not easy!!

Perhaps my calculating is off a little bit, but just since Gregoire took office in 2005 she has added 5777 new state FTE jobs according to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). At an average salaray of about $47000 that amounts to over $270 Million in new spending per year not including benefits and annual increases. Just last year 1126 new FTE positions were added at an estimated cost of $53 Million as the economy was shrinking. Until state officials and the governor take serious action to reduce state payroll, I am not happy about paying any kind of state taxes. I would suggest to start a 10% reduction across the board in non k-12 state employees at a savings of about $500 Million is in order. By the way thanks again to those who objected to an income tax plan in the hearing.

Reagan said it best, the problem with with liberals is that so much of what they know to be true, just isn't so.
