Washington Legislature Seeks Selective Repeal of First Amendment - Is It 1984 Yet?
Posted by Scott "The Piper" St. Clair - March 23, 2009
From my good friend former State Representative Toby Nixon, comes word that several of the more freedom-loving members of the Washington State House of Representatives (Representatives Williams, Chase, Hasegawa, Nelson, Ormsby, Sells, Simpson, and Wood) have taken the first step toward criminalizing speaking the truth.
In an effort reminiscient of the creation of Newspeak, with it's eerily titled "crimethink," in George Orwell's classic 1984, these stalwart defenders of free speech propose to forbid anyone classified as a lobbyist from saying anything that might:
"Threaten any legislator, or any government official, with the relocation of manufacturing jobs including, but not limited to, jobs involving commercial airplane manufacturing, based upon the outcome of any pending or proposed legislation."
What's next Big Brethren (and Sisteren)??? Change the name of the state to Oceania? Create a unit of Thought Police within the Oceania State Patrol???
I can hardly wait..."Up against the wall, thoughts back, and spread 'em!"

Piper: Toby Nixon brought this one to my attention a few days ago, or more. It is certainly somewhat Orwellian. It has absolutely no chance of going anywhere, as it's already missed the deadline. But it's still a curious undertaking. Wonder if it's meant for Boeing or the labor unions?
