The Big Three Bailout Bad Penny
Posted by Scott "The Piper" St. Clair - December 16, 2008
Will this thing, the Big Three bailout, never go away? It seems to have more lives than a vampire. Maybe the only way it can be killed is with a silver stake in its heart.
First, a handful of brave, free-market oriented US Senators stood tall in opposing it. Then, the Bush Administration started floating the idea that it could fund the silly thing from the $700 billion slush fund that Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson hands out to the corporate needy like so much po'k chop money.
No matter how it gets packaged, the American people still remain dead set against it. A recent
Fox News Poll shows 58 percent of the people oppose trying to pump life into what many of them regard as a corpse - 50 percent of those polled are convinced that, should loans be made, they won't be paid back.
let's try re-floating the Titanic while we're at it...could probably do it for about as much money, and at least there would be an entertainment factor in it.
I sure hope this dog doesn't end up like the funding of certain Seattle-area sports palaces where the people kept saying NO...NO...NO...NO!!! But in the end, the politicians said yes...and the people got hosed.
Since so many are taking this personally, the Big Three ought to consider how many potential customers will be so steamed that it will be a winning Lions season in Detroit before many of them ever buy a Ford, GM, or Chrysler product again.
As for me...come end of January when I go car shopping it's to the Subaru dealer I go.
