It's a small legislature after all...It's a small legislature after all...

Interesting item in this morning's Seattle Times about how some of the artists whose music is piped in to detainees down at Gitmo are complaining about the use of their tunes to...uhm...entertain the detainees.  That the music plays 24/7/365 at a volume loud enough for even an old deafie like The Piper to hear it loud and clear is one thing.

But somehow, the artists seem to think their work is being used to torture the orange-jumpsuit-clad guests of the US military.

Kind of a Freudian admission by the artists as to the true nature of their work, huh?

The detainees seem unable to catch the esthetic wonders of artists such as Nine Inch Nails, AC/DC and Dr. Dre.  Of course, more pleasant alternatives are also on the playlist, including the tune list from Sesame Street.

They just don't seem to be diggin' da beat!  But they do seem to be spillin' da beans after a few weeks of Nine Inch Nails' 1,000,000, which can be heard here.

Ya just can't please some folks!

But that sparked a thought in my brain...

If such a strategy works on terrorist detainees at Gitmo, could it also work on other anti-social subcultures?  Such as the Washington State Legislature???

Think on it...if something vapid and obnoxious were to be piped into the House and Senate Chambers in Olympia, couldn't they be "motivated" to hurry up and be gone?  Or, even better, not show up at all.

Since no one's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session, wouldn't we be doing the whole state a massive favor by disencouraging them from showing up?  And think of how green that would be?  No carbon footprint from their behemoth motor vehicles or hot air from their big mouths.

Frank Chopp, write when you find work...

But what tune would be appropriate to do the trick?  Check out the video below, then let me know if it's the one...I've posted a double-speed version just to get them to move along that much faster...

Of course, if you have a tune suggestion, let's hear it - rock on, dude!

This has been a public service blog post.

9 Inch Nails music as legislative deterent... yeah, I can see how that would work :-) But driving the legislators out of the capital won't stop them from messing with us, just keep them from making grand speeches on the House or Senate floor as they rush in to vote and rush back out. I suspect it only works with caged, and at a very high decibel level at that.

Better idea.... charge the legislators a day's pay for every day they go over the scheduled end date of legislation. No per diem either!

How about a little carrot with that stick...for every day they cut off the scheduled legislative session, they get an extra half day's pay. For the folks who actually have jobs in their real life it would be an incentive, for those legislators who live to hang out in Olympia, not so much.

Piper,
Off subject...still

This was done in WA all the time and was a joke to those in the know.

Check the school districts buy outs and superintendents movements for the last 20 years around 90 & 92 it was musical chairs.

The superintendents also went into firms selling to schools, like the military going back and forth to Boeing et al.
